Work and Deadlines
In our class, the homework schedules remains virtually the same in order to offer consistency and predictability. To view more information, click on a title below:

Agenda
  • I have purchased agendas for the students to use and will send them home in a few weeks.
  • Parents and guardians are asked to sign and return this book daily to acknowledge that they've seen the notes in the agenda.
Reading Log
  • Levelled reading books will be sent home with a log after reading assessments have been completed (end of September or early October).
  • Students will get in the routine of choosing and changing their own books every morning.
  • Students are expected to read one or more books every night.
  • The length of time students read can be recorded in the log. (*See the log for more detailed information.)
  • Their book choices will change as their reading levels change.
  • Depending on the amount of time spent reading, students can earn free books!
Newsletter & Online Homework
  • The newsletter is published and distributed at the beginning of each week to keep you up-to-date and informed.
  • If you lose your copy, please click here for an electronic version.
  • Homework will be posted in Google Classroom the same day that newsletters are e-mailed to you. The homework allows you to see what we're covering in class and so that the students have an opportunity to review what they've learned.
  • Doing homework online also helps the students to develop and maintain their online skills and helps them stay prepared in case we need to pivot to online learning.
  • Homework needs to be completed and submitted every Thursday, unless otherwise specified in the agenda or newsletter.
Spelling Test
  • Students will be tested on their word wall words/high frequency words. The list of 5 to 10 words will be supplied on a weekly basis in the weekly updates or agenda.
  • Testing will take place on Fridays unless otherwise specified in the weekly updates.
  • Spelling tests will be sent home so you can see your child's progress. Each spelling test needs to be signed and returned by the following Monday.
Math Quizzes
  • Students will be occasionally tested with mini quizzes on the same day as spelling tests.
  • They will review mental math skills (addition, subtraction, time)
  • Tests will be sent home so you can see your child's progress. Each test needs to be signed and returned by the following Monday.
